Little stories of value

Pasta and ancient grains

Rosaria and her courageous organic agriculture

The Rosaria Miceli Organic Farm was founded in Sicily in 1990 in Buseto Palizzolo, a small town on the hills east of Trapani, at 250 m above sea level. It is a small company that extends over about 20 hectares, where Rosaria grows ancient Sicilian grains, chickpeas and legumes, in addition to an olive grove producing Cerasuola, Nocellara and Biancolilla olives for oil, all strictly organic. The company grows the Perciasacchi variety, so called because of the pointed shape of the grain that pierced – “perciava”, in Sicilian – the jute sacks that contained the grain, and the Senatore Cappelli variety. From the beginning, Rosaria chose to grow ancient grains to protect biodiversity and safeguard the local natural heritage. Her company adopts the crop rotation technique: alternating wheat with legumes to ensure that the soil is more fertile, the wheat grows and develops without the use of chemicals. Furthermore, the high height of the ears - they reach 1.80 m - naturally fights weeds and does not require pesticides and chemical fertilizers. A choice that benefits the environment and consumers.

Why is it in the Boniviri network?

Guardian of biodiversity

The farm preserves ancient Sicilian grains that reach 1.80 m in height such as Perciasacchi and Senatore Cappelli.

It does not have intensive practices, it uses natural and organic methods for the management of its agricultural practices. It is committed to a path of sustainability and social impact.

Professionalism
