Little stories of value

Mamertino DOC wine

Maria and her Vineyard Nica

Vigna Nica is a small Sicilian winery, founded by Maria, a young and visionary winemaker, in the DOC area of Mamertino, in the province of Messina. Starting with just 2 hectares of vineyards, today the company has almost 5. The territory, characterized by hills between 100 and 350 meters above sea level, clay soils with the presence of volcanic rocks and a Mediterranean climate mitigated by sea breezes, is particularly suitable for the cultivation of red grape varieties. The company operates with respect for nature, combining organic cultivation and biodynamic techniques, with the use of natural fertilizers such as green manure, earthworm humus and horn manure. The harvest is done manually, early in the morning, in small 16 kg boxes, with a careful selection of the grapes. For winemaking, the red wines undergo long macerations on the skins with pumping over and delestage, while the white and rosé wines ferment at low temperatures in an atmosphere made inert by dry ice. The production includes four labels: Mamertino Rosso DOC, Mamertino Rosso Riserva DOC, Mamertino Bianco DOC and Nica, Terre Siciliane Rosato IGP.

Why is it in the Boniviri network?

Respect the territory

It does not have intensive practices, it uses biodynamic and organic methods for the management of its agricultural practices. It is committed to a path of sustainability and social impact.
