Boniviri: The first "carbon neutral" oil in Italy

by La redazione di Boniviri

Although agriculture continues to play an irreplaceable mitigation role, agricultural products, throughout their entire life cycle, can cause an impact on climate warming. For example, the life cycle analysis of extra virgin olive oils has highlighted that among the most impactful phases of the supply chain are those related to the cultivation of olives, the production of packaging materials, and the distribution of the finished product . By purchasing Boniviri products, you are sure that their carbon footprint will be measured and reduced to zero, thanks to the commitment of growers and millers and the emissions compensation program carried out by Boniviri.

In 2020 Boniviri played a Product Carbon Footprint study . Through interviews with stakeholders in a Boniviri production chain, involving one of the partner growers and an oil mill, it was possible to collect data on the emission impact of a 750 ml Boniviri bottle. From the fuel used for the tractor to the transport of the olives to the oil mill, each step was carefully tracked.

This study was then reworked and digitized using the Climate Impact Forecast tool. In this way it was possible to estimate the impact of a bottle in 2.88 kg CO 2 eq .

Once the emission impact has been estimated, Boniviri offsets the emissions generated through a reforestation project in Italy , making the emission impact of its extra virgin olive oil neutral ("carbon neutral").

Thanks to these choices, those who buy Boniviri oil, buy a product that is neutral from the point of view of emissions: a positive choice for the environment and for future generations .
